Double trouble for WSBK winners

BiaggiOne of the most interesting aspects of World Superbike, compared to other major motorsports series, is the format of having two races per day, providing not only twice the thrills for the fans but also twice the chances to win for the top riders.

In the history of World Superbike racing, there have been maybe not as many double wins as some people would imagine, but the record holders for maximum points on individual racedays are Carl Fogarty and Troy Bayliss, with 16 doubles each. To put these performances into perspective, no other rider has scored more than eight doubles throughout their career.

In the 2010 season there were four riders who took at least one double win, the most successful being Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) who secured four doubles. He started at Portugal then doubled up again at Monza, Miller Motorsports Park (photo) and Misano. By the stage of Misano he had named himself Mr Double…

Jonathan Rea (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) scored his 2010 double at Assen, Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha Sterilgarda) performed the feat at Silverstone and Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) took both wins at Imola.
