2011 Le Mans MotoGP FP1 Result: Stoner Leads A Honda Whitewash

In theory, Le Mans is a Yamaha circuit, but it appears that somebody has neglected to inform HRC of this fact. At the end of the first session of free practice for the MotoGP class at Le Mans, the four, full-factory Honda RC212Vs topped the timesheets, with the three Repsol bikes in the top three. Unsurprisingly, it was Casey Stoner who led the way, well under the race lap record in just the first session. His lead looked pretty unsurmountable, with an advantage of around a second for much of the session. Only towards the end did his fellow Honda riders close the gap.

At the end, Dani Pedrosa got closest to the Australian, closing to within three tenths of Stoner's time. Andrea Dovizioso was under seven tenths off, the Italian nipping ahead of his compatriot Marco Simoncelli in the last few minutes of the session. Jorge Lorenzo was the first non-Honda, the Yamaha man ending just over a second behind Casey Stoner, while Lorenzo's archrival and former teammate Valentino Rossi finished as 6th fastests, just under 1.3 seconds behind the leading Honda.
